North West Cyber Security Cluster Member Becomes Cyber Essentials Accreditation Body

As we mentioned in a previous news story, from October 1st Cyber Essentials will be a requirement of all suppliers bidding for certain personal and sensitive information-handling on behalf of the Government.

Cyber Essentials certification is awarded to businesses that can demonstrate they have implemented measures to reduce the cyber risk.

QG Management Standards, based in Carlisle, Cumbria and a member of the North West Cyber Security Cluster, Chaired by Mitigate has recently been awarded the prestigious title of Cyber Essentials Accreditation Body, one of only three in the UK.

The award of this status allows QG to roll out their standard which will meet the objectives of the scheme to businesses across the UK. Cyber Essentials is a big step forward in the world of information security as its government backed and demonstrates that the need for businesses to adopt at least a baseline commitment to cyber security has been recognised.

Nationally, companies such as Vodafone UK, Barclays Digital Banking and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales have already committed to Cyber Essentials, with the expectation that all the UK’s regulatory bodies will too pick up the scheme as a requirement for their members and suppliers.
