How does it work?

Cyber Essentials Certification Scheme is a UK government-backed and industry-recognised award run by the National Cyber Security Centre Centre (NCSC). The scheme was developed in response to the rapid increase in cyber security threats businesses face and as a way to offer protection against the 80% of IT security breaches.

For all government supply chains and commercial tenders, the Cyber Essentials Certification is a mandatory requirement and is awarded to organisations that are able to demonstrate, through the completion of an online self-assessment questionnaire, that they have effective cyber security measures in place.

We would recommend any business goes for Cyber Essentials Plus certification. Alongside the self-assessment questionnaire, you will also receive an onsite audit and testing of your technical security controls.

why get certified?

As a business you are demonstrating your awareness of cyber security threats and your commitment to mitigating risk. Your suppliers and clients see this preventative action as a trust point and much more likely to feel confident when sharing sensitive information.

When tendering for government project, Cyber Essentials is imperative and some local authorities and MoD projects are now asking for Cyber Essentials Plus as a minimum. Since the scheme was created, more organisations are requiring suppliers (especially SME’s) to have the Cyber Essentials Certification in place if they wish to tender for the project.
